The First Day of School

For the last few days we have been preparing for the first day of school. Each of us has spent time telling Caleb how much fun Kindergarten will be. Even though we have all done this Caleb was still very apprehensive about today. My mom has spent the last few nights reading Caleb different stories about the first day of Kindergarten. Stories that she read to her Kindergarten classes every year. Well today was the first day of Kindergarten!

This morning Caleb came bounding up the stairs and said in a somewhat panicked voice,
"Oh Man! It's the first day of school!"
Here is Caleb all set and ready to go. He did a very good job of trying to be excited!

Caleb & Thomas
(Today was Caleb's first day of Kindergarten and Thomas' first day of his Senior year.
They will both graduate on June 3, 2011)

I asked Caleb this morning if he was glad that Thomas would be going to school with him.
Caleb said, "Oh Yes! It will be so good to have a friend there to check on me!"

In this picture you can tell Caleb is a little bit unsure of what today will bring.

My mom went into school with Caleb and took him to his class. Mrs. Pratnicki was out of the room so my mom and Caleb took a couple pictures then when Mrs. Pratnicki came in they took some pictures with her.

Mrs. Pratnicki asked Caleb if he was excited. Caleb said, "NO! I am scared to death!" Mrs. Pratnicki then told him that Kindergarten would be fun. Caleb replied, "That's what they keep telling me!" My mom knew he was nervous but was also unaware that Caleb was that scared.
Knowing how scared he really was just about did her in.

Everything was so much better when Caleb's dear friend Madison showed up!
Just look at those huge smiles!!!

My mom and I stopped in while the kids were on lunch break to bring Caleb's Kleenex and a gift for his teacher that we forgot this morning. We stood by the back door of the school and when Caleb, who was all the way across the playground, saw my mom he yelled, "MOOOOOMMMMM!" and came running so fast I thought he was going to fall over. I'm pretty sure all of Holtsville heard him yell too! Boy oh boy was he excited to see her.

After talking with Caleb for a few minutes we chatted with Mrs. Graf. She told us that this morning during opening exercises she had Madison on one side leaning her head on Mrs. Graf's arm and Caleb on the other side doing the same. Then all of the sudden while Pastor was speaking Caleb looked up at her and said, "I don't understand one word he is saying."

At the end of the day when we picked Caleb up he came running out begging to ride on someones bus. Caleb sure wanted to ride a bus home; he didn't even care if it took him to one of his friend's house. On the ride home and all evening he has been talking about how much fun school was today even though he said he asked to many questions.
He is very sure that tomorrow will be fun too, and even better than today!
